Lake House, Boats & House Boats

Over Labor Day weekend Ben and I went to Rough River. It seems as though a lot of people from this area have houses at Rough River or go there frequently so I was excited to finally get to go and experience it for myself. We went there with Mike Minsterketter (I'm not sure I spelled that correctly), his mom and dad and his friend Greg. Normally, I think Mike's wife, Leslie would have gone, but since she's about to pop a baby out, she didn't want to be too far from home. Mike's parents own a house right on the river.

Now there's something weird, it's called Rough River, but it's actually a lake...I have no idea why. Anyway...

The lakehouse was cozy and nice with all your standard things; kitchen, dining room, living room, bedrooms and views of the lake. Notice how I didn't say bathroom. They have an outhouse for you to do your duty in. Mike's mom has decorated the restroom so it's not just a hole in the ground, but there's only so much one can do. I believe this was my first real experience with an out house, the closest thing I've ever used would have to be a port-a-potty. So it was different, but I managed just fine. The guys had a much easier time since they could just go anywhere really; out back, off the dock, off the boat, in a can, etc.

Ben and Greg tried to learn how to wakeboard with no luck. I went tubing, which was fun and I also got burnt, which was not so fun. We spent a good deal of time in Mike's boat drinking. All in all it was a good weekend.

This coming weekend we are going to Lake Cumberland (near Somerset, KY) to stay with my friend Catie on her parents houseboat. Not sure what to expect, but she says it has four bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and her mom likes to cook (so there must be a kitchen). Not to mention they have a jet ski and a smaller boat for going out. I'm excited to find out what a house boat would be like! When we were in Amsterdam, we stayed at the Boatel, which was a motel on the water, but I don't think it actually floated. I'm pretty sure it had a foundation in the water.

So anyway, that's what went on and what's going on here.
